City councillor Rob Ford made the quote of the day:

“Those Oriental people work like dogs … they sleep beside their machines,” he said. “The Oriental people, they’re slowly taking over … they’re hard, hard workers.”

Ford was upbraided by other city councillors for failing to include the following Asian stereotypes in the above quote:

* They are evil and cunning.

* Male Asians have small genitalia.

* They are good at math.

* They speak in a cartoonish fashion and have buck-teeth.

Ford can be credited for using the pejorative term “Oriental”, which, although offensive, was probably a better option than “Chinaman”, “Charlie”, or “Chinky”.

Be sure to contact Rob and give him your support. Rob’s been a city councillor for Etobicoke North since 2000. Yes, that means he was re-elected. It was probably all the hard-working Orientals that kept him in there.
